Nowadays most of the companies perceive technology as the means to increase their productivity and to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving marketplace. Therefore, companies are giving way to a virtual work environment allowing employees to be mobile and telecommute. Employees can reach their clients and co-workers remotely and across time zones in a matter of seconds at a negligible cost, IT has spun the assumptions of where work happens; companies are certainly willing to quickly embrace these new technologies in their businesses.
However, this technological revolution seems to minimize the importance of the physical office and face-to-face interpersonal relations, probably leading to a deterioration of relationships in the workplace. Thus, establishing a flexible and hybrid work environment may balance the needs for individual work with the need for interaction allowing individuals to choose how and where they work best.
